Dogs are remarkable creatures known for their loyalty, companionship, and unique communication methods. While humans primarily rely on spoken language to convey their thoughts and feelings, dogs predominantly communicate through nonverbal cues such as body language, visible evidence, facial expressions, vocalizations, and telepathy. These subtle signals can provide valuable insights into a dog’s emotions, desires, and preferences.🐾
One such fascinating instance of nonverbal communication occurred between me and a puppy Chihuahua named Gizmo. Despite his small stature, Gizmo possessed a vibrant personality and an uncanny ability to express his likes and dislikes without uttering words. 🫢
It was a typical afternoon at The Eleventh House in Fairfax when Gizmo walked in with his owner. He jumped up on the couch I was sitting on. He was adorable and playful, as puppies tend to be. I was talking to his owner when I heard Gizmo say, “I like blue velvet pillows. I mentioned that to his owner. She laughed and said she had just purchased him a blue velvet pillow. I also laughed and said, “he wants you to know he loves it.”🔮
The interaction with Gizmo poignantly reminded us of the intricate ways in which dogs communicate with us. They convey their emotions, desires, and needs through subtle gestures and expressions, forging a bond that transcends language barriers.🧐

One day, I was lying on the bed with my Dog, Rafi. Worried about running out of his tick medication, I leaned down, held his head by his muzzle, kissed him on the forehead, and said, “Rafi, tell the ticks that mommy says they are not allowed to be on you.” Less than one second later, a little tick crawled on my pinky finger.😮
